Studies of the Drug Effects on the Aphasics in Cerebro-Vascular Disease

Abstract

Twelve expressive type aphasics, aging from 24 to 75 years, caused by cerebro-vascular accident, were evaluated under the influence of intravenously administrated 20mg ATP, 25mg L-DOPA and 250mg meclofenoxate hydrochloride, all of which were given as medicaments to cerebral metabolism, and 2mg diazepam, given as a tranquilizer, and also inhalation of mixed gas of 5% CO2 and 95% air, as a vasodilator.
Patients were examined according to our test chart, which contained of three test of word naming, word recall and digit span, before and after the administration of each of these drugs and mixed air inhalation.
In conclusion, all patients showed different results in each tests under the influence of each of these drugs. Some patients showed marked improvement in word naming and word recall tests as the effects of these drugs, but no statistical correlation was noted in the results.
