Abstract
With respect to linac graphy using the FCR method, the effects of several metallic plates (MPs) on sensitization and sharpness for the imaging plate (IP) and the attachment conditions were investigated experimentally and theoretically. As MP materials, we used cupper (Cu), lead (Pb) and tungusten (W) for irradiation of 4MV and 10MV x-rays. The results showed that the tungusten (W) plate was optimal as the MP, because it could emit more Compton electrons than the other MPs (Compton electrons scattered forwards can play an important role in constructing sharp, fine images) and because it had a high linear attenuation coefficient (μ) and could remove more scattered x-rays, which deteriorate the quality of images. It was also shown that placing the tungsten plate in front of the IP was very effective; however, placing any MP at the back of the IP had negative effects on the quality of images. To increase the sharpness of images, it was important for the MP and IP to be in close contact.
