Abstract
We report two cases of sparganosis mansoni diagnosed at first as such a common subcutaneous tumor as breast cancer or a lipoma of the inguinal region.
Patient 1 was a 78-year-old woman who had a habit of eating snakes (crostalinae) and raw chicken's meat and drinking soft-shelled turtle's blood. She was referred to the hospital with a diagnosis of breast cancer. During surgery, her breast tumor was clarified to be a subcutaneous tumor from which the plerocercoid of sparganosis mansoni was identified. At the same time she had another subcutaneous tumor of the lower limb which was also caused by sparganosis mansoni.
Patient 2 was a 77-year-old man. He also liked to eat snakes (crostalinae), shellfish (mud snail) and freshwater fish. In this case the plerocercoid of sparganosis mansoni was also found during surgery for a lipoma of the inguinal region.
We, surgeons should keep in mind that there is such a disease caused by parasite as sparganosis mansoni in subcutaneous tumors that we often encounter in daily clinic.
