Abstract
Trousseau syndrome involves blood clotting due to malignant tumor that causes cerebral stroke. We experienced a case with multiple brain infarctions suddenly after colectomy for descending colon cancer, so we suspected Trousseau syndrome.
An 86-year-old female patient was diagnosed with intestinal obstruction because of a tumor in the descending colon by colonoscopy in April 2007. Abdominal CT showed multiple liver metastases. She was admitted to our hospital for an operation.
On the 3rd postoperative day, she had left hemiplegia and hemispatial neglect. Brain CT and MRI showed multiple cerebral infarctions in cerebrum and cerebella. We suspected that the course was that of Trousseau syndrome, so we started a treatment with heparine and Edaravone. However she failed to recover and died on the 39th postoperative day because liver function was exacerbated due to multiple metastases.
