Abstract
A 35 years-old woman, who had received a partial resection of the right mammary gland and axillary lymph node dissection for non-invasive ductal carcinoma at the age of 22 years, underwent mastectomy due to T1c invasive ductal carcinoma of E area of the right breast. Before the operation, a lymphoscintigraphic image was done, and the study showed only the lymphatic pathway to the internal mammary chain but no pathway to the axillary site. The internal mammary lymph node of the second intercostal site was picked up as a sentinel lymph node, and the metastasis of breast cancer was detected. Dissection of the internal mammary lymph nodes does not contribute to the overall survival, but it is useful for local recurrence of the breast cancer after a breast conserving surgery to decide the need for adjuvant therapy.
