Abstract
The use of laparoscopic surgery has rapidly spread due to its low invasive nature. In addition, the expanded view through the laparoscope allows a detailed examination and, thus, facilitates surgery. We report the results of a laparoscopic tumor extirpation of a retroperitoneal lipoma. Preoperative studies, including computed tomography, ultrasound sonography, and magnetic resonance imaging, showed that the tumor included homogeneous fat, and that it pressed the left adrenal gland and the left kidney. Thus, a retroperitoneal lipoma arosing from the retroperitoneal fat around the left kidney was diagnosed. A successful laparoscopic tumor extirpation was done. The expanded view seen thorough the laparoscope was very useful in distinguishing the tumor margins from the surrounding tissue and thus facilitating their separation. In this case of retroperitoneal lipoma, laparoscopic surgery was very useful. The presence of a retroperitoneal tumor is an indication for laparoscopic surgery.
