A case of lung cancer after chemotherapy of hilar and mediastinum lymphnode cancer of unknown origin

Abstract
A 66-year-old man presenting with dyspnea and palpitation was diagnosed with pleural and pericardial effusion in November 2002. Chest CT revealed a mass in the right hilum, neck, and supraclavicular lymph nodes, and an inflamed nodule in the apex of the right lung. No abnormality was observed in other organs. Cytological examination of the effusion indicated adenocarcinoma. The patient was diagnosed with lung cancer ; chemotherapy was performed and the patient was followed up after treatment. A new nodule appeared in the apex of the right lung in May 2009. No such change was observed in the right hilum. FDG-PET examination revealed the accumulation of FDG in the new nodule in the apex of right lung and no accumulation in the right hilum, lymph node, and other organs. We diagnosed lung cancer and performed an operation. Pathological examination of the cancer revealed adenocarcinoma. In this case, the new lung cancer after the treatment of primary hilar and mediastinal lymph node cancer of unknown origin.
