Abstract
An 85-year-old man developed constipation. On endoscopic examination, rectal cancer was diagnosed. On abdominal CT, a 65-mm abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) was also found. Both the AAA and the rectal cancer required emergent surgical treatment ; both were dealt with during a single operation. First, an aneurysmectomy and a Y graft replacement were performed. Then, the graft was wrapped by the aneurysmal wall and the omentum ; the retroperitoneum was closed. Second, Hartmenn's procedure was performed. The patient had an uneventful postoperative course and was discharged on postoperative day 28. In patients with concomitant AAA and rectal cancer, a single operation can be a treatment option in selected cases.
