Abstract
We report a case of Bochdalek hernia in a 42-year-old woman. She was admitted to our hospital because of pain from the epigastrium to the left hypochondrium. Computed Tomography (CT) showed a left diaphragmatic hernia and the escape of the intestinal tract to the thoracic cavity. It was diagnosed as Bochdalek hernia for the presence of a defect at the left posterolateral portion of the diaphragm, and thoracoscopic surgery was performed. It was difficult to reduce the omentum to the abdominal cavity, so that laparoscopic surgery was used together. The hernia orifice was directly closed with thoracoscopic surgery. She was successfully treated by thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgery without using thoracotomy and laparotomy. The postoperative course was uneventful and she was discharged from the hospital on the 8th day after the operation. The patient has remained asymptomatic as of 12 month after the operation. Combined use of thoracoscopic and laparoscopic methods is a more safe and certain method for Bockdalek hernia in adults.
