Abstract
Gastric volvulus is an uncommon benign desease. We report a case of this disease with a review of the literature. A 69-year-old man who had been treated for spinocerebellar degeneration was seen by his family physician for abdominal distension. Plain abdominal X-ray and abdominal CT scan showed a huge amount of gastric gas. Conservative treatment using a gastric tube was started, with observation, but was unsuccessful. Gastric volvulus was indicated by an upper gastrointestinal series(UGI) to percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG) and abdominal 3D-CT scan, so we conducted a distal gastrectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful but the patient developed spinocerebellar degeneration and died on the 330th hospital day.
