A case of malignant lymphoma localized in the spleen after rectal cancer surgery

Abstract

An 81-year-old man was found to have a low-density area in the spleen using computed tomography (CT) at 1 year and 6 months after abdominoperineal resection of the rectum for Rb cancer. Due to the rapid enlargement of the tumor, the patient underwent splenectomy. Although the suspected preoperative diagnosis was sarcoidosis, the final pathological diagnosis was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. It is extremely important to quickly determine the treatment policy for patients with a sign of tumor localized in the spleen, and we should not hesitate to select a surgical therapy.
