Abstract
We have experienced a case of a myofibroblastoma, which is a rare benign tumor, arisen in the female breast. The case involved a 77-year-old woman presented with a right breast mass. On physical examination, an elastic-hard mass was palpated in the upper lateral area of the right breast. Based on ultrasonography and mammography findings, the mass was determined as category 3. Fine needle aspiration cytology revealed a finding suggestive of fibroblast like cells growing in the existing fibrous connective tissue, but no definite diagnosis could be made. Thereafter the tumor was removed. The removed tumor was about 2.5 cm in diameter and well circumscribed. Histology revealed proliferation of spindle- or oval-shaped tumor cells, associating with collagen fiber. Immunohistochmistry showed that the tumor cells were positive for vimentin, desmin, and CD34 and negative for S-100 protein and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). Myofibroblastoma was finally diagnosed.
We herein present our case together with a review of the literature.
