Abstract
Lipoma of the large intestine is relatively rare, but case reports have been recently increasing. This report shows a case of giant lipoma of the transverse colon with intussusception. A 73-year-old woman visited our hospital with abdominal pain. Urgent colonoscopy revealed a giant tumor with erosive change in the transverse colon. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a mass with fat density. Since the diagnostic result was colon intussusception due to a giant lipoma of the transverse colon, a partial transverse colon resection was performed. The resected specimen showed a submucosal tumor (SMT) with a size of 83×60×35 mm. The histopathology showed proliferation of adipocyte precursor cells, a typical finding of lipoma, in the submocosa. There are only 26 cases, including our case, of lipoma of the large intestine that caused intussusceptions reported in Japan. We reviewed those cases including our case.
