Abstract
We report a case of metachronous bilateral obturator hernia with contralateral onset occurring 23 days after initial surgery. A 73-years-old woman was re-admitted to our hospital for pain extending down the inner surface of her right thigh to her right knee. She had undergone laparotomy and hernioplasty for left obturator hernia 23 days before this episode. Abdominopelvic CT showed an incarcerated small intestine between the right pectineus and the external obturator muscles. With a diagnosis of right obturator hernia, we performed emergency laparotomy and hernioplasty with a mesh plug. Retrospectively, abdominopelvic CT done at the time of the first operation showed the potential of a right obturator bernia. While treating patients with unilateral obturator hernia, it is important to keep in mind the possibility of contralateral obturator hernia.
