Abstract
We report a rare case of desmoid tumor of the transverse mesocolon in a patient without a history of familial polyposis coli or operation. A 59-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for an abdominal mass. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen showed an enhanced mass (60 × 50 mm in diameter) in the lower abdominal cavity. A diagnosis of small bowel gastrointestional stromal tumor was made (GIST), and laparotomy was performed. We found that the tumor had originated from the transverse mesocolon and that a part of the transverse colon was involved. We conducted right hemicolectomy. Histopathological test of the resected tumor revealed it to be a mesenteric desmoid tumor. It is often difficult to preoperatively diagnose mesenteric tumors. Here, we report a case of desmoid tumor of the mesocolon transversum and review related literature.
