Abstract
We present a case of leiomyomatosis of the esophagus presented with multiple leiomyomas in the esophagus and diffusely thickened esophageal wall. The case involved a 35-year-old man complaining of difficulty in swallowing. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed two submucosal tumors (SMT), one at the lower thoracic esophagus and the other at the cardiac part of the stomach. Following esophagography and esophageal CT scan, diffuse leiomyoma extending from the lower thoracic esophagus to the cardiac part of the stomach was diagnosed. Esophagogastrectomy was carried out. Histopathology showed an intramural structure in the esophageal wall as smooth muscle diffusely thickened and developed in the shape of the foot. Leiomyomatosis of the esophagus was definitely diagnosed. This case appears to have none of features of Alport syndrome.
