Abstract
A 72-year-old woman presented at our hospital with sudden-onset lower abdominal pain and vomiting ; the patient had been experiencing the symptoms for 5h. She was 15 surgically treated for pancreatitis in her 20s ; however, the exact procedure was unknown. Appendectomy was concurrently performed with the above-mentioned surgical procedure severe abdominal tenderness was noted, and computed tomography (CT) revealed ascites and dilated small intestine. We performed indwelling long tube drainage, but the patient's condition worsened, and follow-up CT showed increased ascites. Strangulated ileus was surpected ; therefore, emergency operation was performed. Laparotomy demonstrated compound volvulus of the sigmoid colon and small intestine. Both loops were gangrenous ; therefore, we resected the sigmoid colon and small intestine. CT findings indicated ileosigmoid knotting ; however, we retrospectively reviewed the CT findings to confirm the diagnosis.
