Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) rarely affects pediatric patients. Here we report a case of a 15-year-old boy who was referred to our hospital for general fatigue due to anemia. Upper GI endoscopy and PET-CT scan showed a large submucosal multinodular tumor in the gastric antrum. Following a biopsy, gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the stomach was diagnosed. Under laparotomy, partial excision of the stomach was performed. The excised specimen involved a 6.2×4.0×2.2 cm tumor. Histopathologically, the tumor was composed of spindle-shaped cells which were positive for KIT (CD117) and CD34. The diagnosis of GIST was confirmed. The patient has been free from recurrence as of ten months after the surgery.
