Abstract
The clinical diagnosis of colonic anisakiasis is difficult because of its low frequency. Moreover, adult intussusceptions caused by colonic anisakiasis are extremely rare. We report a case of anisakiasis of the ascending colon manifesting as intussusception. A 35-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a 2-day history of upper abdominal pain, which had gradually worsened with diarrhea and vomiting. Abdominal computed tomography revealed intussusception. Surgery was performed because remarkable thickening of the wall of the ascending colon was suspected to be a sign of malignancy. Pathological examination of the resected specimen revealed Anisakis. Anisakiasis associated with colonic intussusception is extremely rare. Thus far, only 5 cases, including our case, have been reported in Japan. In cases of colonic intussusceprion, it is important to ask the patient details of the food ingested before the onset of symproms. Furthermore, it is important to bear in mind that colonic anisakiasis can cause intussusception.
