Abstract
A man in his seventies had visited a hospital because of abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) showed intussusception with a tumor of the ileum. He was closely observed because of his mild symptoms. Six months later, he was admitted to our hospital because follow-up CT showed that the intussusceptions had persisted. In spite of further examination, the definite diagnosis for the ileal tumor was not clear. Laparoscopic surgery was performed, and all surgical procedures, including reduction of intussusception, partial resection of the ileum, and anastomosis, were completed laparoscopically. The ileal tumor was diagnosed histopathologically as an inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) . Although IFP of the small intestine is rare, it should be considered during differentail diagnosis of intussusceptions in adults. In addition, a tumor of the small intestine with intussusceptions is a good indication for laparoscopic surgery.
