Abstract
Post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS) is a chronic pain disorder that occurs after breast cancer surgery. The management of PMPS is difficult, and there are few effective treatments. Pregabalin is a type of antiepileptic drug that is used for the treatment of neuropathic pain, such as post-hepatic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathic pain, and trigeminal neuralgia. We report two cases of PMPS treated with pregabalin. A 52-year-old woman underwent an operation for bilateral breast cancer. She developed lancinating pain and allodynia in the left anterior thoracic wall after surgery. She was diagnosed as having PMPS and was given pregabalin. Subsequently, her symptoms improved dramatically. An 82-year-old woman underwent surgery for left breast cancer. She developed lancinating pain in the left anterior thoracic wall after surgery. She was diagnosed as having PMPS and was given pregabalin. Her pain improved immediately. It is likely that pregabalin treatment is effective for PMPS.
