Abstract
A 52-year-old man with abdominal pain and distension developed an intestinal obstruction ; there was no improvement on conservative therapy. Abdominal CT scan showed a small intestinal tumor, and the patient was referred for surgery. During laparoscopic surgery no tumor was found ; the small intestine had become incarcerated into the supravesical fossa. Thus, diagnosis of intestinal obstruction due to an incarcerated supravesical hernia was made. The incarcerated small intestine was released, and the hernia orifice was stitched up.
An internal supravesical hernia is very rare. A proper diagnosis is very difficult to make before surgery. It is important to consider an internal supravesical hernia in cases with unexplained intestinal obstruction.
