Abstract
We report 2 cases of small intestinal metastases from primary lung cancers. Case 1 was a 59-year-old man who had undergone right upper lobectomy by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for pleomorphic carcinoma of the lung. Four years later, he developed vomiting and diarrhea. An abdominal CT scan revealed the layered intraperitoneal structure of the small intestine. As intussusception due to metastasis of the lung cancer was suspected, partial resection of the small intestine was carried out. Upon pathological examination, the tumor was noted to be a metastasis of pleomorphic lung cancer. Case 2 was a 45-year-old man who had undergone right upper lobectomy for pleomorphic carcinoma of the lung. One year later, he complained of abdominal pain. An abdominal CT scan revealed a mass-like lesion in the small intestine. Partial resection of the small intestine was carried out. The pathological diagnosis was metastasis of pleomorphic lung cancer. Small intestinal metastases from lung cancer are rare and have poor prognosis. If patients with pulmonary carcinoma, especially pleomorphic carcinoma, complain of abdominal symptoms, it is important to suspect intestinal metastasis.
