Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine postoperative complications and delayed outcomes in patients who underwent surgical repair of Crawford II thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm.
Subjects & Methods : We enrolled 15 patients operated on for Crawford II thoracoabdominal aneurysm out of consecutive 40 patients who underwent elective surgeries for thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm in our hospital in a 6-year period from January 2006 to December 2011.
Results : No hospital death (0%) occurred, but there were two cases of delayed neurologic deficit. Four (27%) patients needed artificial respiration for more than 72 hours after the operation, and four (27%) patients developed renal failure which required postoperative hemodialysis. The five-year survival rate was 83.3%.
Conclusions : The surgical treatments of Crawford type II thoracoabdominal aneurysms for selected patients are considered satisfactory in terms of the surgical as well as long-term outcomes at present. Strategies and adjuncts for the surgery using at present are considered appropriate.
