Abstract
The patient was a 60-year-old man. Low anterior resection was performed for rectal cancer (RSRa, circ, type 2, 65mm×65mm). Histopathological examination revealed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma invading the subserosa with venous invasion (v1). After the operation, the patient was followed up and did not undergo adjuvant chemotherapy. Six months after the operation, CT revealed no metastasis of the liver and lung. However, the patient began to suffer memory lapses 7 months after the operation, and CT and MRI showed a mass approximately 3 cm in diameter in the right frontal lobe of the brain. The patient was diagnosed as having solitary brain metastasis with any other metastatic lesion. Nine months after resection of rectal cancer, the brain tumor was removed surgically and diagnosed as metastatic adenocarcinoma from rectal cancer. After the operation, tegafur-uracil was administered orally for 1 year, and the patient has been alive for 50 months without any further evidence of recurrence.
