Abstract
We report 2 cases of breast cancer with skin recurrence due to needle tract seeding. Case 1. A 46-year-old woman with early breast cancer underwent partial mastectomy in July, 2007 followed by breast irradiation and adjuvant chemotherapy. The patient developed skin recurrence at the site of core needle biopsy in June, 2008. After resection of the skin recurrence, the patient was treated with capecitabine as adjuvant therapy. The patient experienced itchy and unresectable local recurrence again in September, 2009, which showed no response to various kinds of chemotherapy.
Case 2. A 52-year-old man breast cancer patient underwent mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy in March, 2009 followed by adjuvant tamoxifen therapy. The patient developed skin recurrence at the core needle biopsy site in September, 2010, which was surgically removed.
During breast cancer surgery, surgeons should pay careful attention to the removal of the needle, and the site of core needle biopsy for specimen retrieval during breast cancer surgery should be carefully selected.
