Abstract
An 81-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with abdominal pain. Abdominal CT showed a large cyst beside the sigmoid colon and free air. Resection of the cyst including the sigmoid colon was performed. A communication with the sigmoid colon and intestinal mucous membrane inside the cyst was observed. This was diagnosed as duplication of the colon.
Duplication of the alimentary tract is a relatively rare, congenital disease. Duplication of the colon is very rare in adults. A total of 44 cases have been reported in Japan in the past 30 years. A case is reported here, and the clinical characteristics of such cases are reviewed.
