Abstract
In advanced and metastatic breast cancer treatment, it is sometimes difficult to control cancerous pleural effusion and ascites for heavily treated patients. We show four cases treated by S-1 and CPT-11 combination chemotherapy for patients with cancerous pleural effusion and ascites due to advanced and metastatic breast cancer. Treatment regimen was as follows ; S-1 (80 mg/body/day, administered from day 1 to 14) and CPT-11 (80 mg/body/day, administered on day 1 and 8) combination chemotherapy every 3 weeks. One patient had cancerous pleural effusion and three patients had cancerous ascites. Two patients had a large amount of cancerous pleural effusion or ascites, and aspiration drainage was performed before chemotherapy. One patient had grade 3 diarrhea, and another had grade 4 thrombocytopenia. After S-1 and CPT-11 combination chemotherapy, controlling cancerous pleural effusion and ascites went well, so that no aspiration drainage was necessary for any of the four patients. This S-1 and CPT-11 combination chemotherapy turned out to also be effective for abdominal distension and for preventing dyspnea in the terminal period.
