Abstract
A 76-year-old man who developed abdominal pain and hematochezia was admitted to our hospital. Abdominal computed tomography revealed ileocolic intussusception, and laparoscopy was performed 2 days after admission. On laparotomy, the ileocolic intussusception had been naturally reduced, and a tumor was palpable in the ascending colon. Ascending colon cancer was suspected and an ileocecal resection with lymph node dissection was performed. The specimen showed complete intussusception of the appendix covered by tumorous lesions. Histological examination revealed adenocarcinoma on the outer side and serous membrane on the inner side of the appendix.
Complete appendiceal intussusception is very rare, and even fewer cases have been reported of appendiceal carcinoma with complete appendiceal intussusception leading to ileocolic intussusception.
