Abstract
The patient was a 72-year-old woman, who had been treated for choledocholithiasis. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) in the outpatient department revealed that an endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage stent (ERBD stent) had migrated to terminal ileum. After 9 days, she was adomitted to our hospital with a complaint of fever and lower abdominal pain. In a complete medical examination, the ERBD stent was incarcerated in the sigmoid colon. The lost tube from the stent was removed with an endoscope. However, the diverticulum of the sigmoid colon had already been punched by the stent. We judged that conservative medical management was impossible, and performed emergency surgery. A wedge resection of the sigmoid colon was performed. We present a rare case of gastrointestinal perforation caused by a migrating biliary stent.
