Abstract
A 75-year-old man who was treated for prostate cancer by brachytherapy in 2010 presented with jaundice in 2012. Further close examination revealed multiple cancers involving the lung, the stomach, the lower bile duct and the sigmoid colon. He underwent laparoscope-assisted pancreato-duodenectomy and sigmoidectomy, followed by thoracoscopic left upper lobectomy at intervals of 20 days. Histopathological examination showed that each tumor was an independent tumor and had not metastasized from any others. The lung tumor was poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma (Stage IIIA), the gastric tumor, well differentiated adenocarcinoma (Stage IA), the bile duct tumor, moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (Stage II), and the sigmoid colon tumor, moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (Stage IIIb). Finally, metachronous quintuple cancer including synchronous quadruple cancer was diagnosed.
We experienced a rare case of multiple primary cancers which were radically and safely resected during one hospitalization a short hospital stay by using minimally invasive surgeries.
