Abstract
An 86-year-old man was admitted to our hospital due to a 3-day history of anorexia and vomiting. He was severely dehydrated. Physical examination revealed generalized abdominal swelling and right lower abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography showed a small intestinal loop in the abdomen. He was diagnosed with an intestinal obstruction and a stenotic lesion in the right lower abdomen. We decided to treat this case conservatively. His abdominal symptoms resolved after decompression with an intestinal tube, and he recovered from dehydration. However, an operation was performed 11 days after admission due to continued niveau. During the operation, a portion of the ileum was found to be incarcerated in the retrocecal fossa and he was diagnosed with a retrocecal hernia. Intestinal resection was not necessary because the incarcerated ileum appeared to be viable. We decided to close the hernial hiatus. Postoperative progress was good. We report a case of retrocecal hernia.
