Abstract
A 61-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of a gastric submucosal tumor. The 5-cm submucosal tumor was present at the greater curvature of the middle part of the gastric body. A bore biopsy of the submucosal tumor did not provide a definitive diagnosis. An abdominal computed tomography scan showed a tumor in the middle part of the gastric body, but did not show distant metastasis. Laparoscopic-endoscopic cooperative surgery was performed. Histopathological examination revealed spindle-shaped cells arranged in a palisade pattern. The tumor cells were immunohistochemically positive for S-100 and negative for c-kit, CD34, and smooth muscle actin. The final diagnosis was gastric schwannoma. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful. She was discharged on the ninth postoperative day. Thus, gastric schwannoma can be safely resected via laparoscopic-endoscopic cooperative surgery, with a curative intent.
