Abstract
Metastatic cancer to an inguinal hernia sac is very rare. A case of metastasis of cecal cancer to the right inguinal hernia sac is reported.
A 67-year-old woman with cecal cancer underwent a laparoscopy-assisted ileocecal resection for invagination in 2011. The resected specimen showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma, se, med, n2, ly2, v0, INFa, Stage IIIb. The patient received 12 courses of adjuvant chemotherapy, modified 5-fluorouracil leucovorin oxaliplatin (mFOLFOX6), after surgery, and showed no sign of recurrence after completion of treatment. However, in 2013, she was found to have a palpable mass in the right inguinal region. A malignant tumor was suspected, and surgery was performed. The operative findings and pathological analysis revealed that the mass had a cystic component in the inguinal hernia sac, and that it was an adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor was positive for CEA, CK20, and cdx2, and negative for CK7 and D2-40. These findings confirmed that the tumor was metastatic cecal cancer to an inguinal hernia sac.
