Abstract
A right-sided ligamentum teres of the liver is an anatomical variation caused by a residual fetal umbilical vein on the right side. A 62-year-old man who presented with jaundice was found on abdominal CT to show a thickened wall of the common hepatic duct. The CT also revealed that the gallbladder was located to the left of the ligamentum teres. The patient was diagnosed as having bile duct cancer with a right-sided ligamentum teres. A right posterior lobectomy and bile duct resection were performed. The patient was discharged after an uneventful postoperative course 27 days after the operation.
A right-sided ligamentum teres is frequently associated with anomalies of the portal triad. Therefore, preoperative planning keeping this anomaly in mind is essential prior to surgical resection.
