Abstract
In recent years, the prosthetic repair of incisional hernias has drastically reduced the incidence of recurrence. However, when a prosthesis is placed intraperitoneally, there is a risk of intestinal adhesions and injury as well as recurrence caused by incomplete coverage of the suprapubic hernia defect by the intraperitoneal mesh. Therefore, here we introduce a preperitoneal mesh repair technique (PMR) for abdominal incisional hernias.
Sixty patients underwent this technique between April 2005 and April 2014.
The median operating time was 100 minutes.
Two cases of recurrence (3.3%) and one wound infection (1.7%) occurred. However, no cases of mesh infection occurred. Other complications occurred in seven cases, but all recovered conservatively. Our findings suggest that this PMR is a feasible operative technique for incisional hernias.
