Abstract
We report here a 16-year transition of nutritional status and a 9-year transition of thyroid function in a case of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. The case involved a 57-year-old man who was admitted to our hospital because of small bowel intussusceptions at the age of 41. Partial resection of the small intestine and surgical polypectomy were performed. The patient was diagnosed with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, based on oral pigmentation and the clinical findings. During 16 years since then, the patient showed malnutrition, sarcopenia, low T3 state, and low T4 state repeatedly, whenever the polyps recurred. This condition showed no improvement by supplemental or palliative treatment. Only surgical polypectomies improved the condition. During these 16 years, a total of five operations were performed. A total of 82 cm of the ileum was resected and 1915 polyps were removed. In this case, this long term transition of the relations between removal of the polyps and nutritional status and thyroid function could be followed.
