Abstract
A 34-year-old man who visited a previous hospital because of back pain was found having a retroperitoneal tumor with calcification on an abdominal CT scan and was referred to the Gastrointestinal Center in our hospital. A contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scan showed an about 30-mm cystic tumor with calcification in its center at the dorsal aspect of the pancreas tail. Abdominal MRI revealed high signal intensity on T2-weighted images and low signal intensity on T1-weighted images. Dermoid cyst was thus suspected, but we decided to perform surgery to gain the definite diagnosis. We performed laparoscopic surgery by five ports. Incision of the attached part between the inferior margin of the pancreas and the transverse mesocolon disclosed the known lesion in the retroperitoneal space. The tumor was easily dissected from the surrounding tissue. The feeding vessel from the retroperitoneum was transected and the tumor was enucleated from the surgical wound at the navel. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged from our hospital on the 6th postoperative day. The pathological diagnosis was colon duplication.
Since retroperitoneal enteric duplication totally resected under laparoscopy has rarely been reported, we present our case with review of the literature.
