Abstract
A 2.5-year-old girl presented with several bouts of vomiting and intermittent abdominal pain. Abdominal radiography revealed two connected circular foreign bodies and a dilated small bowel. We suspected that she had accidently ingested magneto-therapeutic devices ; PIP ELEKIBAN® which were used for the treatment of muscle stiffness by her parents. At emergency laparotomy, two devices of PIP ELEKIBAN® had connected through the intestinal wall and formed the band, which caused strangulation of small intestine. Accident ingestion of foreign bodies should be considered in the case of ileus in children who have no past history of laparotomy. Emergency surgery might be mandatory because such patients can develop strangulation ileus even if symptoms of intestinal perforation are absent.
