Abstract
A 43-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with fibroadenoma of the right C region 4 years earlier was under follow-up observation on a regular basis. This time, she exhibited worsening in the form of microlobulated changes and internal non-uniform findings, and therefore underwent tumorectomy under local anesthesia. Pathological findings showed a 3-mm invasive ductal carcinoma within a 2.2-cm fibroadenoma, as well as sporadic ductal carcinoma in situ, and carcinoma arising within fibroadenoma was diagnosed. The invasive carcinoma was in close proximity to the resection stump, and on a subsequent day, additional resection and sentinel lymph node biopsy were performed. Surgery was followed by hormone therapy with tamoxifen and irradiation of the conserved breast. Carcinoma arising within fibroadenoma is very rare ; we report herein our experience with a case of invasive ductal carcinoma arising within fibroadenoma.
