Abstract
A 70-year-old man who had inserted a bottle of milk into the rectum through the anus by himself 10 days earlier presented to our emergency clinic because of discomfort of the lower abdomen and sense of remainder of stool due to the bottle which had remained there and was impossible to be extracted. When he was first seen, we confirmed the presence of a milk bottle in the rectum, of which opening faced toward the oral side. Gastrointestinal perforation was not associated. Our attempts to extract the bottle by using forceps, balloon, and snare under fluoroscopy ended in failure. Eventually we instantly made an absorption device using a silicone sucker on the market and a string. Our attempt with this device succeeded in extracting the bottle easily that permitted to avoid surgery.
Our technique presented here is an extremely simple and effective method, and is especially useful to extract a foreign body in the rectum which is difficult to remove by conventional methods. We present this technique with a review of the literature.
