Abstract
An 83-year-old woman underwent abdominal CT as a follow-up examination for a liver cyst, which revealed thickening of the colonic wall at the hepatic flexure. A subsequent colonoscopic examination showed a mass in the ascending colon near the hepatic flexure. The tumor was diagnosed by biopsy as a neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC). A laparoscopic right hemi-colectomy was performed, and the final diagnosis was large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the ascending colon. She remains well without recurrence 6 months after the surgery. Colorectal LCNECs are rare as compared to other gastrointestinal malignant tumors, and only 9 cases of colorectal LCNEC have been reported so far in the literature. Herein, we report a rare case of colorectal LCNEC with a review of the literature.
