Abstract
A 14-year-old boy presented to our hospital with a 38.3°C fever and abdominal pain for 5 days. He had rebound tenderness in the right lower abdomen. Laboratory findings revealed leukocytosis and positive C-reactive protein. Enhanced computed tomography revealed the presence of ileocecal abscess and ascites. Intraoperative findings showed severe adhesion between the ileum and the greater omentum, and two tumors, 8 and 4 cm in size, in the ileocecal area. Finally, we performed open surgical resection of the appendix and partial resection of the ileum and omentum. Pathological findings showed a colony of Actinomyces in the abscess. His β-D-glucan level on the third postoperative day was high, but the cause of the increase was unclear. He had an uncomplicated postoperative course and had no recurrence for 1 year.
