Abstract
A 30-year-old woman presented to our hospital because of a one-week history of hemoptysis. A chest CT scan revealed a 3-cm diameter multilocular cystic lesion at the anterior mediastinum and pneumonia image in the upper lobe of the left lung which was adjacent to the lesion. Angiography showed communication between the tumor lesion and the left internal thoracic artery and left bronchial artery. The tumor was determined to cause hemoptysis. Following embolization of the abnormal vessel, no further episodes of hemoptysis occurred. To prevent recurrence of hemoptysis, thoracoscopic resection of the tumor was performed. Histopathology revealed that pancreatic tissue was present in the teratoma and, in the lung tissue which was adjacent to the teratoma, hemorrhage was demonstrated. No recurrence of the tumor or hemoptysis has occurred, as of 26 months after the operation.
We report a case of mature mediastinal teratoma which presented with hemoptysis and was resected thoracoscopically.
