Abstract
A 36-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a mobile mass in the upper abdomen. The mass in the upper abdomen measured 5 cm in diameter and was freely mobile on palpation. Imaging studies suggested a serous cystic neoplasm (SCN) of the pancreas. Surgery was performed because the tumor diameter exceeded 4 cm. The tumor was located in the pancreatic head, and grew extrapancreatically. The tumor was completely extirpated. Histopathology of the resected tumor specimen confirmed the diagnosis of SCN of the pancreas. During the surgery, it was observed that the pancreatic part of the tumor showed no mobility, and that the tumor mobility was attributable to its extrapancreatic growth. This case serves to underscore the importance of also considering pancreatic tumors in the differential diagnosis of a mobile abdominal mass.
