Abstract
A 72-year-old woman presented with sick sinus syndrome that required pacemaker (PM) implantation. She reported a history of metal allergy, and skin patch testing revealed sensitivity to metal components of the PM, as well as to silicone and polyurethane used in epicardial leads. We implanted a PM via a median sternotomy. The generator and the epicardial leads were wrapped in an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sheet. She demonstrated no allergic symptoms postoperatively. We could confirm the risk of allergy using skin patch testing and successfully prevent PM allergy. However, the patient requires close follow-up to monitor for the development of delayed PM allergy.
