Abstract
A 59-year-old man was diagnosed as having sigmoid colon cancer with close examination for positive fecal occult blood test. A lumbo-peritoneal shunt (LPS) had been placed for normal pressure hydrocephalus secondary to subarachnoid hemorrhage. We confirmed that it was a LPS tube equipped with anti-reflux mechanism before surgery and judged that laparoscopic surgery could safely be performed with normal abdominal pressure. During surgery, we first fixed the LPS tube to the abdominal wall of the upper abdomen and then performed sigmoidectomy with D3 lymph node dissection. He had a good postoperative course and was discharged on 12th postoperative day. In treating patients who are placed a LPS tube equipped with anti-reflux mechanism, we could expect safe laparoscopic surgery.
