Abstract
A 46-year-old woman presented with epigastric pain that was precipitated by eating. Blood tests revealed no abnormalities. Abdominal contrast-enhanced CT showed gallbladder wall thickening and an ulcerative lesion in the gallbladder. Findings of abdominal US suggested the presence of stones or sludge in the gallbladder. Cholecystectomy was performed for suspected chronic cholecystitis. The gallbladder wall was thickened and a 10×6mm ulcerative lesion with a clot was found in the body of the gall bladder. However, there were no gallbladder stones or sludge.
Histopathological examination revealed findings suggestive of chronic cholecystitis with an ulcerative lesion. The ulcer depth reached the subserosa, with interstitial bleeding. The patient was discharged after an uneventful postoperative course on postoperative day 5. We present a case of acalculous cholecystitis with an ulcerative lesion in the body of the gall bladder.
