A 79-year-old man who received gastric wedge resection for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the stomach, which was 28×27×23mm in dimension, c-kit and CD34 positive and belonged to the low risk group, had been followed in our clinic. A CT scan conducted 28 months after the operation, a 28×27×23mm tumor was pointed out in the greater omentum near the resected region. We removed the tumor with a suspicion of local recurrence of GIST and diagnosed it as fibromatosis (desmoid tumor). Recently we sometimes encounter reports on secondary carcinogenesis after resection of GISTs. Desmoids tumor is a rare secondary carcinogenesis of GIST and only six cases like ours have been reported in Japan.
