Laparoscopic Retroperitoneal Surgery for Idiopathic Bilateral Superior Lumbar Hernia—A Case Report—

Abstract

An 83-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a mass and pain in her bilateral lumbar area. Computed tomography revealed an abdominal wall defect and herniation of prolapsed colon in the same area leading to a diagnosis of idiopathic bilateral superior lumbar hernia. Laparoscopic retroperitoneal hernia repair was performed using a Versatex^TM mesh. The patient was discharged on the 3^rd postoperative day without complications. No adverse events including recurrence and/or pain were observed at postoperative follow-up. We recommend a retroperitoneal approach as a suitable approach to treat lumbar hernia to surrounding organ injury.
